The Munster Angus Breeders group hosted its annual premier sale on Saturday, April 4, at GVM, Kilmallock Mart, Co. Limerick.

The regional-based cattle breeding group 'Munster Angus Breeders' established a Company Limited by Guarantee (CLG) in August 2025 and confirmed to Agriland at the time that it is independent of both breed societies.

Despite the challenging weather conditions on the day, the sale attracted "a large attendance with ringside and online buyers competing strongly for bulls throughout the sale," according to the organisers.

All bulls offered for sale were exhibitor bred, genomically tested, independently weighed on arrival, inspected, and fertility tested.

The auctioneer on the day was Denis Barrett who presided over a clearance rate of 73%, with an average sale price of €4,570.

This represented an increase of €150 in the average sale price on the 2025 sale.

The organisers said that the trade was "notably stronger for bulls carrying higher genetic indexes".

Six bulls traded for €5,000 or more, with the demand coming from a broad customer base including dairy, suckler, and pedigree herds.

The judging of the bulls in the pre-sale show was carried out by Ben and Elaine Ryall of the renowned Fellfort Angus herd in Co. Cork.

They awarded the overall champion title to Ryans Amazing, shown by Ger Ryan from Ballyhooly, Co. Cork.

Ryans Amazing is a September-2024-born five-star son of Fordel Lockdown, and this bull went on to sell for €5,000.

The Reserve Champion went the way of Gurtavoher Azlan, exhibited by John Barlow from Aherlow, Co. Tipperary.

A September-2024-born son of Mong Valiant, Gurtavoher Azlan, also went on to sell for €5,000.

John Barlow enjoyed further success with his second entry, Gurtavoher Apollo, a September-2024-son of Clooncarne Pellet, which likewise sold for €5,000.

Top price of €5,800

The top price of the day was €5,800. This was paid for Lot 6, Bantrybay Aero, from the herd of Eoin Lynch from Bantry, Co. Cork.

Aero is an August-born five-star son of Carrigroe Sea Salt and attracted spirited bidding.

Eoin Lynch’s second entry, Bantrybay Days of Saltburn, also sold well at €4,000.

The third-highest price of €5,600 was paid for Inchisine Air Jordan, exhibited by Donal O’Riordan from Macroom, Co. Cork.

Air Jordan is a September-2024-born son of Carbery Vernon.

Next best at €5,200 was Cloughoulamore Alberto, from the herd of Jerry O’Sullivan, Millstreet, Co. Cork.

Alberto, an October-2024-born five-star son of Rawburn Boss Hogg, carried one of the highest Replacement Indexes in the sale at €199, which was strongly reflected in the bidding.

The Munster Angus Breeders are set to host two more sales this month taking place at Corrin Mart, Co. Cork, and again at Kilmallock.

All bulls for these sales will again be exhibitor bred, genomically tested, and fertility tested.

The organising committee thanked all who supported the show and sale "for their continued professionalism and support".

They said: "The lively bidding reflected continued confidence from purchasers in the breeders to consistently deliver high-quality, functional Angus bulls."
