Met Éireann: Mixed conditions with average rainfall this week

Met Éireann has said that this week will bring mixed weather conditions across the country, along with average temperatures.

Today (Tuesday, April 7), will begin mainly dry with sunny breaks in the east, while it will be cloudier in the west with some showery rain.

The cloud will extend north-eastwards during the day, with some heavy falls of rain at times. Highest afternoon temperatures of 13° to 17°C, in moderate south-east winds, which will ease.

The rain will clear later to leave a mainly dry and cloudy night. Some mist and fog patches will form in the calm conditions. Lowest temperatures of 5° to 10°.

The weather forecast shows that tomorrow (Wednesday) will be dry in many areas with cloud and sunny spells. Cloud will thicken in the west in the afternoon bringing rain and drizzle to coastal areas.

Highest temperatures of 13° to 17°, coolest near Atlantic coasts, in light to moderate south-westerly breezes.

Rain and drizzle in the west will move eastwards on Wednesday night, followed by clear spells and scattered showers. Overnight lows of 3° to 7° in moderate westerly winds.

Thursday will bring sunny spells and scattered showers, some of which will be heavy and possibly thundery with the chance of hail.

It will be cooler than previous days with highest temperatures of 8° to 11° in fresh and gusty westerly winds, easing later.

Windy and blustery day on Friday with fresh to strong and gusty southerly winds.

Rain in the west will be heavy and persistent at times, before spreading eastwards later in the day. Highest daytime temperatures of 10° to 13° with moderate to fresh south-westerly winds.

The weekend is expected to bring more rain and hail showers with some dry periods too.

Met Éireann

In its latest outlook, Met Éireann said the coming seven days will bring around average rainfall with weekly totals of around 15-25mm.

There will be fluctuations between milder and cooler conditions, but overall there will be around normal average temperatures for the week. Mean soil temperatures will stay above average.

There will be some good drying conditions in the east up to Wednesday, poorer further west due to the rain and showers.

Met Éireann said that Wednesday will bring the best opportunity for spraying this week.

Soils look set to improve slightly this week, with more well and moderately drained soils becoming trafficable.

Some poorly drained soils in the south and east may improve by the end of the week becoming trafficable, while soils in the north and west will remain saturated or waterlogged.
