Manorhamilton Livestock Sales in Co. Leitrim hosted its weekly general cattle sale on May Bank Holiday Monday (May 4) with over 650 cattle on offer in the sale.
Speaking to Agriland after the sale, Ava Moffitt from Manorhamilton Livestock Sales said there was "a super show of cattle on offer for the bank holiday sale" at the Co. Leitrim mart venue.
She noted that the top price of the sale was €5,100 or €12.14/kg paid for a 420kg Limousin-cross heifer.
The top-priced heifer was sold by the Giblin family from Co. Sligo and secured by a customer from Northern Ireland.
A further three heifers sold for €5,000 in the sale, all Belgian Blue-cross types:
Selling at €4,650 or €10/kg was another 465kg Belgian Blue-cross heifer and at €4,000 was a 395kg Belgian Blue-cross heifer equating to €10.13/kg.
A 540kg Limousin-cross heifer sold for €6.59/kg or €3,560.
Weanling bulls reached €6.82/kg in the sale for a 255kg Charolais bull that sold for €1,740.
Another 295kg Charolais bull sold for €1,950 or €6.61/kg.

There was also a selection of suckler cows with calves at foot on offer in the sale.
Some of the notable prices for these included €5,950 for a Charolais-cross cow with a Limousin heifer calf at foot.
A Charolais-cross cow with a Charolais heifer calf at foot sold for €5,150.
Moffitt said that a lot of the top-end heifers in the sale were being sought by Northern Ireland customers, with good local demand for the store cattle4 in the sale and a very good clearance achieved on the day overall.
