The bank holiday weekend will see mixed weather, with spells of rain and showers, and cooler temperatures, according to Met Éireann.
It will start off quite dull this morning (Friday, May 1) with mist and fog patches lingering in places. Scattered showers will develop later this afternoon, with heavy falls at times, and becoming most frequent in the west towards evening.
Sunny spells will develop at times too with highest temperatures of 13°C to 18° or 19°, mildest further east, in light to moderate southerly winds.
It will remain cloudy overnight with scattered showers, turning heavy at times. Lowest temperatures will be 6° to 10° with patches of mist and fog forming in light southerly winds.
Tomorrow (Saturday, May 2) will be another cloudy day in store with widespread showers, though some brighter spells will develop through the day. Showers will be heavy at times with the chance of thunder.
It will be slightly cooler tomorrow, with highest temperatures of 12° to 16° in light southerly breezes.
Tomorrow night, widespread showers will continue at first, with a clearance developing from the west overnight.
Dry and sunny spells will develop over the northern half of the country towards the following morning with lowest temperatures of 7° to 11°. Mist and fog will form too in light south-east breezes.
Sunday (May 3) will be generally cloudy overall but sunny spells will develop throughout the day alongside scattered showers, some of which will turn heavy at times with the chance of thunder.
Highest temperatures will be 12° to 15° in light northeasterly winds.
Clearer spells will develop further east overnight on Sunday, with isolated showers gradually dying out. It will remain cloudier further west. Lowest temperatures will be 3° to 8° in light to moderate northerly winds.
Bank Holiday Monday (May 4) will be a generally cloudy day for most, but it will stay mostly dry apart from some patchy light rain and drizzle. Highest temperatures will be 10° to 14° in light to moderate northerly breezes.
Tuesday (May 5) will remain cloudy with scattered outbreaks of light rain and drizzle, gradually clearing from the north through the evening. Highest temperatures will be 9° to 13°, warmest to the south.
According to Met Éireann, the current indications for the rest of next week arethat we will see a return of high pressure, which will see conditions become drier, although it will remain cloudy.
It should become milder towards the end of next week too, the national forecaster said.
