Weather: Unsettled with rain or showers in coming days

The weather over the next couple of days is set to be unsettled in general, with rain or showers forecasted, Met Éireann has said.

Today (Friday, May 15) will be dry, with some sunny spells in most areas this morning and afternoon apart from isolated showers in Ulster and later in Leinster.

It will be cloudier in the west and south-west though, with patches of light rain or drizzle possible later. Highest temperatures will be 10° to 15° with a light to moderate north-westerly breeze.

Tonight will start mainly dry, with some clear spells over the eastern half of the country. Cloud will spread eastwards overnight, bringing patches of light rain or drizzle.

Lowest temperatures tonight will be 2° to 9°, coldest in the north-east early in the night, with light variable or southerly winds.

Saturday

Tomorrow morning (Saturday, May 16) will start off cloudy with patches of rain or drizzle. More persistent rain will quickly develop in the west and will move eastwards across the country through the morning and afternoon, with sunny spells and scattered showers following.

The rain will clear from the east by evening. Highest temperatures will be 9° to 14° with light to moderate south to south-west winds, becoming westerly with the clearance of the rain.

Tomorrow night will see clear spells and well scattered showers at first. Cloud will increase overnight and outbreaks of rain or drizzle will develop in the west and northwest.

Lowest temperatures tomorrow night will be 3° to 7° with light to moderate west to south-west winds.

Sunday

Sunday (May 17) will be cloudy and breezy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, turning heavy and persistent at times, particularly during the late afternoon and evening. Some thunderstorms are possible too.

Highest temperatures will be 9° to 13° with a moderate to fresh south-westerly breeze developing.

Sunday night will see a cloudy and wet start with widespread rain, heavy at times. The rain will give way to clear spells and isolated showers in northern areas, but will continue in the south.

Lowest temperatures should be 3° to 9°, coldest under clear spells in the north, with light to moderate south-westerly winds.

Monday

Rain will continue in the south on Monday morning (May 18) with drier weather and some sunny spells further north.

However, it will become cloudy and wet through the afternoon as rain extends across the country from the south-west and turning heavy at times.

Highest temperatures are expected to be 11° to 14° with a moderate south to south-east breeze.

It will stay mostly cloudy, with scattered outbreaks of rain, on Monday night. It will be a bit milder, with temperatures not falling below 9° to 12°, in a moderate southerly breeze.

Tuesday (May 19) will be mostly cloudy, with showery outbreaks of rain at first, but drier weather with some sunny spells will extend from the south later.

Highest temperatures will be 13° to 16° with a moderate to fresh south to south-west breeze.
