Over 75,000 tractors licenced in Ireland in 2025

75,617 agricultural tractors were licenced in Ireland last year, according to data from the Department of Transport.

This figure represents a drop of 1,200 tractors on the 2024 total of 74,417.

In 2021, some 77,399 agricultural tractors were licenced in the country. That number fell to 73,467 in 2022 and decreased further in 2023 to 72,234.

The data was outlined by Minister of State at the Department of Transport Seán Canney in response to a parliamentary question from Labour Party TD Ciarán Ahern.

Deputy Ahern had requested information on the number of vehicles licenced in Ireland in the past five years.

The data shows that 3,246,651 vehicles across all categories were licenced last year.

Of that total, there were over 2.5 million private passenger cars, which was up almost 1 million in a year.

698 combine harvesters were licenced last year, down from 712 in 2024 and 719 in 2023.

Almost 4,800 excavators/diggers were licenced, which is an increase on the 4,701 recorded in 2024.

There were 878 dumpers registered, up from 854 in the previous year.

The data shows 65,166 vintage vehicles were licenced last year, which is an increase of over 3,500 on the 2024 total (61,660).
