CSO: 20% increase in new tractors licensed in April

287 new tractors were licensed for the first time in April 2026, according to the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

This represents an increase of 20% or 47 units when compared to the same month last year.

Between January and April, 1,190 new tractors were licensed for the first time, which is up 28% or 263 units on the same period in 2025.

258 used (imported) tractors were licensed in April 2026, an increase of 16 units on April 2025 (242).

In the first four months of this year, 966 used (imported) tractors were registered, up 8% on the corresponding timeframe in 2025.

The data also shows that the total number of new private cars licensed in April 2026 (11,930) fell by 8% when compared with April 2025 (13,033).

The number of used (imported) cars licensed grew by 40% in April 2026 to 7,732 when compared with the same month last year.

1,543 used (imported) diesel private cars were licensed in April 2026, compared with 1,504 in the same period of 2025.

Used (imported) private petrol cars licensed went up by 21% in April 2026 to 2,845.

The share of electric vehicles (EVs) among used (imported) cars from January to April 2026 was 9%, compared with 3% in the same period of 2025.

The number of new private electric cars licensed in April 2026 was 3,089, up 73% on April 2025 (1,783).

The CSO said this means the share of EVs among new private cars from January to April 2026 was 23%, compared with 16% in the same period of 2025.

The number of new plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) licensed in April 2026 increased by 3% to 1,810.

Overall, Toyota was the most popular make of new private car licensed in April 2026 at 1,545 vehicles, followed by Volkswagen (1,408), Skoda (1,330), Kia (928), and Hyundai (859).

The Toyota C-HR was the most popular make of electric car in the month at 214 vehicles.

The number of new goods vehicles was up by 21% in April 2026 (3,787) when compared with April 2025.
