Cavan County Ploughing Match and family fun day will be held in Cornafean, beside MacSeain's golf course, this Bank Holiday Monday, May 4.
The event will feature competitive ploughing across a range of classes including tractor and horse ploughing and loy digging from 11:30a.m.
There will be a slew of attractions at the ploughing match including family amusements and opportunities to engage with local farmers and exhibitors.
Cavan Ploughing Association held its first ploughing match in 1980, and since then the event has continued to grow.
Committee member Emma Donnellan said: "We are very proud of the strong tradition we’ve built within the local farming community.
"Our event is always a great day out for all ages. Over the years, we’ve had fantastic entertainment, including well-known names such as Big Tom and Paul Kelly, and we’re delighted that Paul Kelly will be performing again this year between 2:30-4:30p.m.
"Katelynn Marie will also entertain from 12:30p.m," she said.
There will also be a dog show; line dancing; a jiving competition; amusements; bouncy castles, and a variety of stalls, "making it a real family-friendly occasion".
In addition, there will be prizes for the most appropriately dressed woman and man.
"We are especially proud of our talented ploughmen and women, many of whom have gone on to compete at national level and have brought home numerous medals.
All proceeds raised at the gate every year go to local charities.
"This year we are supporting Cavan/Monaghan Palliative Care which was founded in 1993, a cause very close to our hearts," Emma said.
Cavan Ploughing Association was founded by Ted Sheridan, Liam Patterson, Patsy Reilly, Ollie Smith and Eamonn Carolan.
The inaugural 1980 event was held in Kingscourt, Co. Cavan, and has returned there several times over the years as it moved around the county.
