The Munster Angus Breeders group held its mid-season sale on Saturday, April 18, at GVM Kilmallock Mart, Co. Limerick.
A sale report from the group said that bulls met "a very strong trade, achieving both a record sale topping and average price for this sale".
"The improved weather forecast helped attract with both a large crowd and significant online activity, reflecting buyers' continued trust in breeders to deliver quality cattle," according to the group.
All bulls presented were breeder-bred, genomic tested, inspected, and weighed upon entry to the mart, and all were fertility tested.
There were 45 bulls catalogued with 30 being offered for sale.
Auctioneer Denis Barrett oversaw a 96% clearance rate, with an average price of €4,125, up €705 from the 2025 sale.
There was particular strong trade for bulls with higher indexes.
Three bulls achieved prices of €5,000 or more. The bulls attracted a broad customer base, including dairy, suckler, and pedigree herds.
David Clarke from Mullingar and owner of the well-known livestock business Cows.ie was the show judge.
He tapped forward Rathfort B185 from the herd of Martin Mulcahy Charleville, Co. Cork as the show champion.
B185 is a 5-star son of Dovea sire Rathfort U0129. B185 went on to sell for €5,500.
Reserve champion went to Belrose Alex who was from the herd of Joseph Forbes from Enniskeane, Co. Cork.
Alex is a December-2024-born son of Clara Volvic. He later went on to sell for €5,100.
The highest price of the day went to Portanes A Memory from the herd of John Lynch, Kilmallock.
Memory is a December-2024-born 5-star son of Kealkil Primelad and sold for €5,600.
John’s other two entries also sold on the day with Portanes Anthony and Portanes Anon selling for €4,100 and €4,000.
The next highest price of the day was €4,900 which went for Cloonsuck Axel from the herd of Mark Flanagan, Pallaskenry, Co. Limerick.
Axel is a 5-star September-2024-born son of Te Mania Berkley.
The next Munster Angus Breeders sale will be held on Saturday, May 2, at GVM Kilmallock Mart, where there are 40 bulls catalogued with all bulls fertility tested, Genomic and Exhibitor bred.
