Department launches call for forestry promotion projects

Minister of State for forestry, farm safety and horticulture Michael Healy-Rae has launched an open call for proposals for forestry promotion projects.

The public call seeks to support projects that promote afforestation, sustainable forest management, and the benefits of forestry and timber products.

The projects will be aimed at promoting climate, environmental, economic and societal benefits.

Particular focus will be placed on initiatives that engage farmers, landowners and the wider public.

Applications to the competitive call for proposals are invited from any group or individual, for projects running between June and October 2026.

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine said that, as with previous tranches, applications "are expected from a wide range of stakeholders".

Minister Healy-Rae welcomed the third tranche of this initiative, saying: "I am pleased to announce this open call, which reflects our commitment to supporting initiatives that encourage farmers, landowners and the public to get involved in forestry, while also supporting our existing forest owners.

"It is important that we continue to highlight the many benefits of forests, and that we motivate more people to play a part in growing and managing our forests," the minister added.

Minister Healy-Rae noted that, following the recent mid-term review, a range of enhanced supports are now available under the Forestry Programme.

"We must continue to promote these opportunities, and ensure that farmers, landowners and the wider public are aware of the schemes and supports available," he said.

"There are options to suit everyone, from measures that integrate with existing farming practices to opportunities for dedicated forestry."

Minister Healy-Rae added: "I encourage any individuals or organisation with innovative ideas to promote forestry to apply for support under this call."

The specification document and and application form are available through the department's website.

The closing date for applications is 5:00p.m on April 30.
