Animal Health Ireland (AHI) has announced the launch of its inaugural veterinary student bursary award 2026.

The new initiative is designed to recognise and support the next generation of veterinary professionals as they begin their careers in Irish livestock health.

The award is open to veterinary students undertaking farm or clinic placements this summer.

Applicants are invited to submit a CV and a short essay of up to 500 words, before completing a four-page report based on their placement observations.

Shortlisted candidates will be assessed, with a bursary of €1,000 awarded to the successful applicant.

The application process is open online, with a closing date of May 29, 2026.

Shaping animal health

Commenting on the launch, Dr. Natascha Meunier, programme manager at AHI, said: "This bursary is about giving back to a veterinary community that is central to everything we do.

"Farmers and vets work hand-in-hand on the ground every day, and that partnership is what puts science into action at farm level, improving the health and welfare of livestock right across the country.

“The next generation of veterinary professionals will play a key role in making the cutting-edge decisions that shape Irish animal health, and we want to support and develop that engine room on their journey.

“We look forward to seeing students showcase how AHI's pioneering programmes are making a real, tangible difference at farm level."

AHI is an industry-led partnership between livestock producers, processors, animal health advisers and government.
