600 Dublin primary school students to attend farm visits

600 students from primary schools in Dublin city are set to visit dairy farms in Dublin and Meath next week.

The events are being hosted by Agri Aware and agricultural equipment company, Farmhand.

On Monday (April 27), the students will visit the farm of Michael Connell in Swords, Co. Dublin.

The following day, they will travel to the farm of Noel Burke in Drumree, Co. Meath.

During the visits, students from schools located near Farmhand headquarters in Dublin will have the oppotunity to explore the farms and take part in engaging, educational talks delivered by Agri Aware education officers.

The students will learn about dairy farming in Ireland, as well as the broader agricultural sector.

Farmhand will cover the transport costs for participating local schools.

Farm visits

Agri Aware chair Shay Galvin said that the visits provide an opportunity for students to experience working Irish family run farms first-hand.

"Initiatives like this play a key role in educating the next generation about Irish agriculture.

"By connecting students directly with farmers, we are helping to build awareness, appreciation and trust in how our food is sustainably produced," he said.

Stephen Scrivener, Farmhand's sales and marketing director, saod the company is proud to be supporting Agri Aware with this initiative.

"It is vital that the next generation know what happens on farms and where food comes from.

"The best way to do this is by visiting a farm, and we are delighted to afford this opportunity to over 600 students in the Dublin 15 area who might never have been on a farm before," he added.
