Wind warning issued for four counties

A Status Yellow wind warning has been issued for Sunday afternoon.

Met Éireann has issued the warning for counties Donegal, Galway, Mayo and Sligo.

The warning is in place from 2p.m. until 8p.m. this evening.. 

Strong and gusty westerly winds are expected, especially near coasts.Potential impacts include difficult travelling conditions; debris and/or loose objects displaced; and possible wave overtopping.

Afternoon forecast

The national forecaster has said to expect a cool and blustery day, with sunny spells and widespread showers feeding in from the Atlantic and moving eastwards across the country.

Some of the showers will be heavy with a chance of hail or thunder and some may be wintry on higher ground or further north.

Highest expected temperatures are of 6° to 10°, with fresh to strong and gusty westerly winds, and gales along northwestern coasts.

Tonight’s weather

Tonight, Met Éireann expects a mix of clear spells and scattered blustery showers at first.

The showers will gradually become confined to further north, with cloudier conditions developing elsewhere through the night, together with outbreaks of rain and drizzle in the west.

Lowest temperatures of 1° to 6° degrees early in the night, but increasing through the night as cloud spreads.

Moderate to fresh and gusty westerly winds will also ease, becoming mostly moderate and moving southwesterly through the night.

Tomorrow

Tomorrow (Monday, March 16) is expected to be dull, damp, and misty with outbreaks of rain and drizzle spreading from the west.

The weather is predicted to become breezy too, with moderate southwesterly winds freshening through the day. Highest temperatures of 9° to 12°.
