Weekend weather: Breezy with blustery showers and possible flooding

The weekend weather forecast from Met Éireann indicates a mixed bag over the next few days with predominantly breezy conditions with blustery showers.

Cloud with any lingering rain and drizzle in the south and east, along with some mist patches, will clear this morning as sunny spells extend from the north and west.

Scattered showers will develop from later this morning, some of which may turn heavy in the afternoon.

Highest temperatures of 8°C to 11° with westerly winds increasing moderate to fresh for the afternoon, strong for western and north-western coasts but easing in the evening.

There will be clear spells and scattered showers tonight, most frequent in the north and west.

Some of the showers will be heavy or thundery with hail possible.

There could also be some falls of sleet, mainly on high ground.

Lowest temperatures will range from 1° to 5° generally, falling to 0° locally, in mostly moderate, occasionally fresh westerly winds, strong along Atlantic coasts.

Sunny spells and showers tomorrow Saturday morning, heaviest and most frequent in the north and west with chances of isolated thunderstorms, hail and sleet on high ground.

The showers will ease during the afternoon, becoming isolated for the evening.

Highest temperatures will range from 7° to 10° in moderate to fresh and gusty west to north-west winds, strong for western and northern coasts, easing mostly light through the evening.

On Saturday night it will be largely dry and clear at first with just isolated showers.

Cloud will build from the west with rain following into the north-west towards morning with lowest temperatures of 2° to 6°.

Light to moderate southwesterly winds will strengthen towards morning.

Sunday is expected to be a wet and breezy morning as rain extends south-eastwards along with fresh to strong and gusty south-west to west winds, reaching near gale force at times for western and northern coasts.

The rain will be heavy at times, especially for the north and west, with some spot flooding possible.

The rain will clear southwards during the afternoon as sunny spells follow along with some showers, mainly for the north.

Winds will moderate during the evening with highest temperatures ranging from 9° to 13°.Sunday night should be largely dry and clear at first with just some showers in the north.

Cloud will build from the west through the night. Lowest temperatures will range from 6° to 10° or 11°, coolest in the north-east, in mostly moderate westerly winds.

Looking ahead to next week, Monday looks like it will be a mild but rather dull day with outbreaks of rain and drizzle.

Highest temperatures of 11° to 15° are expected in moderate to fresh westerly winds.Tuesday is expected to be another mild day with plenty of cloud and patchy rain and drizzle but some sunny spells will break through.

Highest temperatures will range from 11° to 14° in mostly moderate westerly winds.A fair amount of uncertainty in the details for the following days but indications are that conditions will generally be mixed with rain at times but dry intervals too.
