A number of weather warnings are in effect in several counties at the moment, with low pressure near Ireland set to bring rain all week, according to Met Éireann.
Southern and eastern areas will be the most affected, where a combination of already saturated ground, high river levels and high tides will lead to flooding along rivers and in coastal areas.
A Status Yellow rain warning for counties Dublin, Louth and Wicklow came into effect at 6:00a.m this morning (Tuesday, February 3) and will remain in effect for most of the day until 9:00p.m.
A Status Yellow warning for rain is also in effect for counties Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Cork and Waterford. This warning came into effect at 9:00p.m yesterday (Monday, January 2) and will remain in effect until 3:00p.m this afternoon.
In the counties covered by these weather warnings, further heavy rain falling on saturated ground, combined with high river levels and high tides will lead to localised flooding, river flooding, and difficult travel conditions, Met Éireann said.
As well as that, we are also in the midst of a weather advisory notice for rain and potential flooding which lasts for nine days, from Sunday (February 1) to next Monday (February 9).
In general, it will be dull today with rain and drizzle, heavy and most persistent over the south and east. Rain will gradually become patchier through the day with showers following in over southern counties.
Highest temperatures today will be 4° to 9°, with moderate to fresh easterly winds easing through the day.
Tonight will be cloudy for most with patchy outbreaks of rain and drizzle. There will be occasional clear breaks later in the night over the southwest where mist and fog patches may form.
Lowest temperatures will be between 1° and 6° or 7° in light to moderate easterly winds, mildest in the south.
Tomorrow (Wednesday, February 4) will be generally cloudy with further outbreaks of rain and drizzle. However, brighter spells may occasionally develop throughout the day with the best chance over the midlands and western counties.
Highest temperatures tomorrow will be 5° to 10°, with mostly moderate easterly winds.
Wednesday night will remain cloudy with rain feeding in from the south across southern counties. Further north will be drier with some clear spells. Lowest temperatures will be 3° to 8°, with moderate to fresh easterly winds.
Met Éireann said there is some uncertainty in the forecast for Thursday (February 5) but current indications suggest a wet and windy day with widespread rain, turning persistent and heavy at times. Highest temperatures should be 5° to 9°, with fresh to strong easterly winds.
On Thursday night, outbreaks of rain and drizzle will continue overnight but will gradually become patchier and confined to the south and east towards morning.
Ulster and north Connacht will stay mostly dry overnight on Thursday apart from the odd shower. Lowest temperatures will be 1° to 6°, mildest in the south, in fresh to strong and gusty easterly winds, stronger along coasts.
Friday (February 6) is looking to be another wet and windy day with widespread outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Heavy and persistent falls will mostly affect the south and east. Highest temperatures will likely be 5° to 10°, with fresh to strong easterly winds.
Current indications are for similar conditions to persist into the weekend.
