Weather to stay mainly unsettled for coming week

The weather this coming week is set to remain mainly unsettled, with cold conditions, before possibly turning milder by the end of the week, according to Met Éireann.

It will be blustery today (Monday, February 16) with widespread showers at first, turning heavy in places with a chance of hail, in moderate to fresh westerly winds.

Drier conditions and sunny spells will slowly spread from the north through the afternoon as showers ease and winds veer northerly. However, heavier showers will continue in Munster. Highest temperatures will be 6° to 10°C, turning much cooler by evening.

Tonight will be a cold, generally dry and clear night with isolated showers. Showers may turn wintry on high ground in the north-west.

It will turn cloudier in the south-west towards morning with patchy drizzle possible. Widespread frost and some icy patches will develop, with lowest temperatures of -3° to +1° in a light north-west or variable breeze.

Tuesday

It will be cold tomorrow (Tuesday, February 17), with frost and ice lingering at first.

It will be a dry day for most with sunshine to start but cloud will thicken from the south-west through the day with rain and drizzle gradually spreading across Munster, possibly falling as sleet on high ground.

Tomorrow will become breezier with light northerly winds increasing moderate to fresh easterly. Highest temperatures will be just 2° to 6°.

It will become wet and rather windy overnight tomorrow, with rain spreading north-eastwards, possibly turning to sleet for a time with snow possible on higher ground.

Lowest temperatures will be 0° to 5°, though it will turn milder in the south-west later, in fresh to strong east to south-east winds.

Wednesday

Wednesday (February 18) will see a wet start with rain, possibly falling as sleet in parts of the north and north-east at first. Rain will linger in the east and north for much of the day but elsewhere will turn brighter with scattered showers.

It will be a cold day in Ulster, with highest temperatures of 2° to 5°, though milder elsewhere, with highs of 6° to 10°. Fresh to strong south-easterly winds will ease moderate to fresh through the day.

Wednesday night will be cloudy, with scattered outbreaks of rain gradually easing as the night progresses. Some patches of mist and fog will develop in light to moderate easterly winds. Lowest temperatures should be 0° to 4°.

Thursday

Thursday (February 19) will be cloudy to start, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle.

It will slowly brighten up from the west as the day goes on with scattered showers and sunny spells spreading eastwards.

It will be a cool day across the north and east with highest temperatures of 3° to 7°; though milder in the west and south with highs of 8° to 10°. The day will also see light to moderate variable winds.

Friday

It will turn dull and blustery on Friday (February 20), with rain and drizzle spreading eastwards across the country early on, followed by showers and sunny spells later in the afternoon. Some showers may turn heavy. Highest temperatures will be 9° to 12° in fresh to strong south to south-west winds.

Met Éireann has said that current indications suggest that there will be further outbreaks of rain next weekend, with the best chance of dry spells in the south.

It is set to be milder next weekend, with temperatures rising above average.
