Watch: Protester sign at Bord Bia HQ removed

A sign understood to have been erected by protesters from the Irish Farmers' Association (IFA) at Bord Bia's head offices in Dublin has been removed.

A short video of the moment appears to show a person on a ladder taking down the sign, which had been displayed by protesters over the main entrance to the building.

It is understood that that sign was taken down last night (Friday, February 6) by persons working on behalf of and with the instruction of Bord Bia.

The image below shows the sign before its removal.

IFA members have been protesting at Bord Bia's headquarters for almost two weeks over its chairperson Larry Murrin and his business, Dawn Farm Foods, sourcing some of its beef from Brazil.

In the last week, some of these protesters also gained entry to the Bord Bia building, sparking criticism from Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Martin Heydon.

Meanwhile, it is understood that the IFA will seek to carry out a "major lobby campaign" this weekend ahead of a Dáil vote on a Sinn Féin motion next week.

That motion, which was debated, but not voted on, on Wednesday (February 4) calls on Minister Heydon to remove Larry Murrin as Bord Bia chair.

However, a government amendment to the motion will, if passed, express support for Murrin to stay on.

A message understood to have circulated among IFA members last night said: "The Dáil vote on the motion debated last Wednesday will take place on Wednesday night [February 11]. We are co-ordinating a major lobby campaign this weekend.

"We believe the vast majority of rural TDs do not want to support the continuation of the chair of Bord Bia. However, they may well have to vote for this due to the party whips," the message claims.

The messages adds: "We must keep lobbying them to put pressure on the minister to resolve the issue before the vote."

The message also states that there are currently six IFA members "still occupying the Bord Bia offices".

The IFA update message also claims that there were a "number of statements" made by Larry Murrin at his Oireachtas committee appearance this week that were "problematic".

According to the message, IFA president Francie Gorman has written a letter to the board members of Bord Bia seeking a board meeting to be convened without Larry Murrin to discuss "these serious issues".
