Tributes have been paid following the death of a well-known former businessman and hotelier of Brady Bros. Marts and Hotel Group, Jimmie Brady.
A death notice on RIP.ie outlined that Jimmie Brady Ashdene, Old Bridge Road, Cootehill, Co. Cavan, formally of the White Horse Hotel, passed away on Sunday, February 1.
The proprietor of the White Horse Hotel in Cootehill and Cootehill Livestock Mart was part of a Brady family business dynasty who owned several marts and hotels in Cavan and neighbouring counties.
The Brady Bros. Marts and Hotel Group was a prominent business force throughout the late 1960s, and into the 1970s and 1980s.
Its business portfolio included Cootehill Mart, Cavan Mart, Mohill Mart, Dowra Mart, and Carnaross Mart.
It also had a collection of hotels, which included the aforementioned White Horse Hotel in Cootehill, Co. Cavan, the Hillgrove Hotel in Co. Monaghan, and the Kilmore Hotel in Co. Cavan.
Speaking to Agriland, Cootehill Mart manager, Stephen Drury paid tribute to Jimmie Brady on his passing.
"We regret to hear the death of Jimmie Brady," Drury said.
"We had a very close link to Jamie and all the Brady family. It's sad to hear of his passing over the weekend."
Tributes to Jimmie on RIP.ie described him as "a gentleman both at the marts and in the hotel", with many adding having "fond memories" of Jimmie from the hotel and social gatherings that took place there.
Others describe the many great memories from the functions and gatherings that took place in the White Horse Hotel.
The Cootehill Mart staff also extended their sympathies to the Brady family on Jimmie's passing.
Jimmie is survived by his wife Ann, son Tommie, daughters Nan, Noramai and Mary, brother Patrick, grandchildren and relatives.
He was predeceased by his brothers Eugene and Tommie, and sisters Mary and Nancy.
