The rain that has fallen over the last 24 hours in the south east will have, undoubtedly, helped spring barley crops.
Up to this point yellow rust had been identified in winter wheat crops, growing in the north east of the country.
Mildew has been a problem this season and as chemistry comes under threat it is good to see new products coming on stream.
Many winter barley crops have visible signs of mildew and while it may look unsightly it is not going to impact on yields.
Heavy infestations of mildew are apparent with a significant number of barley, oat and wheat crops at the present time.
Teagasc is reporting quite high levels of mildew infestations in a number of winter cereal crops this week.
