Met Éireann has confirmed that three counties will be under Status Orange warnings for rainfall from early today (Thursday, February 5) until tomorrow (Friday, February 6).
Status Orange warnings had already been issued covering counties Wicklow and Waterford. Now, Co. Dublin has been added to that list.
Two Status Orange warnings will be in place for these counties.
The earlier one will apply to Co. Waterford, and will come into effect at 9:00a.m this morning, remaining in place for 24 hours until 9:00a.m tomorrow morning.
The second warning covers counties Dublin and Wicklow and will come into effect at 12:00p.m (midday) today. This warning will also be in place for 24 hours, expiring at 12:00p.m tomorrow.
According to Met Éireann, spells of very heavy rain falling on already saturated ground in these counties, combined with high river levels and high tides, will lead to localised flooding; river flooding, with potential impacts along the entire course of the river; and difficult travelling conditions.
Apart from those two Status Orange warnings, three Status Yellow warnings for rain will also be in effect for 11 counties.
Before the Status Orange warning kicks in for Dublin and Wicklow, these counties will be under a Status Yellow warning from 9:00a.m. This warning expires at the same time as the Status Orange warning - 12:00p.m tomorrow.
A Status Yellow rain warning has also been issued for counties Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Wexford and Tipperary.
This warning will come into effect at 9:00a.m this morning and will remain in place for 24 hours until 9:00a.m tomorrow morning.
Finally, a Status Yellow rain warning for Cavan, Monaghan and Louth will come into effect at 12:00p.m today and will remain in effect until 12:00p.m tomorrow.
Met Éireann said that, in counties impacted by Status Yellow warnings, further rain falling on already saturated ground combined with high river levels and high tides will lead to localised flooding, river flooding, and difficult traveling conditions.
