Sheep trade: Spring lamb prices hit €10/kg as ewes and hoggets lift also

This week's sheep trade sees continued price positivity with rises in price offers for spring lambs, hoggets and cull ewes.

Farmers have told Agriland up to €10.00/kg has been paid for spring lambs up to 21kg carcass-weight but official quotes are currently at €9.80/kg.

Cull ewe quotes have jumped by up to 50c/kg since last Monday in some cases and hoggets have lifted by a further 30c/kg.

Sheep trade: Factory prices

This week, Kepak is quoting €8.65/kg plus a 15c/kg Quality Assurance (QA) bonus for spring lambs, leaving €8.80/kg on offer up to 23kg carcass-weight.

This price offer is up 30c/kg since last Monday and 90c/kg in the past two weeks.

The Athleague, Co. Roscommon site is quoting €4.70-€4.80/kg for cull ewes, up 20c/kg since last Monday.

Kepak has no official quote for spring lambs this week but farmer sources have told Agriland the outlet is offering €9.80/kg up to 20.5kg carcass-weight.

Irish Country Meats (ICM) is quoting €8.60/kg plus a 20c/kg QA bonus for hoggets, leaving €8.80/kg on offer here up to 23kg carcass-weight.

This price offer is up 30c/kg since last Monday.

The Navan, Co. Meath and Camolin, Co. Wexford-based outlets are quoting €5.00/kg for cull ewes this week - a rise of 50c/kg since last Monday.

ICM is quoting €9.60/kg plus a 20c/kg QA bonus for spring lambs leaving €9.80/kg on offer here up to 21kg.

Kildare Chilling has no official quote for hoggets this morning (Monday, March 23), but farmer-supplier sources have told Agriland the outlet is paying over €9.00/kg for hoggets.

Ballon Meats in Co. Carlow is quoting €8.80/kg for hoggets this week, a rise of €1.00/kg in two weeks.
