Remaining unsettled for weekend while also milder than average

The weather will remain unsettled this weekend, with spells of rain, showers and blustery conditions, although it will also remain milder than average for this time of year, according to Met Éireann.

There is a Status Yellow - thunderstorm warning for Clare, Kerry, Limerick, Galway in place until 11:00a.m today.

The potential impacts are spot flooding, lightning damage and difficult travelling conditions

Meanwhile, rain will clear eastwards early on this morning (Friday, February 20), with sunny spells and scattered showers following behind.

Showers will be blustery and turn heavier and more persistent for a time in the late morning and early afternoon. Cloud will thicken from the south-west through the afternoon with outbreaks of rain and drizzle in Munster and Connacht later.

Highest temperatures will be 9° to 12°C in moderate to fresh, occasionally strong, west to south-west winds.

Outbreaks of rain and drizzle in Munster and Connacht will move north-eastwards early on tonight. It will become drier behind the rain, though it will stay cloudy with patches of mist and drizzle.

It will be mild tonight, with lowest temperatures of 6° to 10° in mostly moderate south-west winds.

Saturday

It will be a mild, breezy and rather wet day tomorrow (Saturday, February 21), with further outbreaks of rain moving north-eastwards across the country, turning heavy at times, particularly in the west and north.

Highest temperatures tomorrow will be 10° to 13° with moderate to fresh south-west winds.

Tomorrow night will see rain clearing south-eastwards early on. Cloud will linger in the south and east, with clear spells and isolated showers developing in the north and west.

It will remain mild tomorrow night with lowest temperatures of 6° to 9° in moderate to fresh south-west winds.

Sunday

Sunday (February 22) will be bright and blustery with scattered showers, becoming heavier and more persistent for a time through the afternoon. Highest temperatures will be 9° to 12° with moderate to fresh, occasionally strong, southwest winds.

Sunday night will remain blustery, with clear spells and scattered showers, most frequent in the west and south-west. Lowest temperatures will be 5° to 8° with fresh to strong west to south-west winds.

Next week

Monday (February 23) will see a mostly dry and bright start. Cloud will thicken from the south-west early on with outbreaks of rain and drizzle spreading north-eastwards through the day.

Highest temperatures will be 10° to 12° with moderate to fresh south-westerly winds.

Tuesday (February 24) is likely to be a cloudy day with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. It will stay mild, with highest temperatures of 10° to 13° in moderate to fresh southerly winds.

Beyond that, current indications show a continuation of unsettled conditions with further spells of wet and blustery weather, Met Éireann said.
