A public consultation on the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) post-2027 has been launched.
The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) said the purpose of this consultation is to gather views from farmers, stakeholders and members of the public to help inform Ireland’s position on the future CAP.
The department said this is a consultation on the proposed EU regulations for CAP, and is not on scheme design.
DAFM said: "In July 2025, the European Commission published its legislative proposals for the EU Budget (Multiannual Financial Framework) and the CAP for the period 2028–2034.
"These proposals represent a significant change in both the structure and funding of the CAP, including the proposed delivery of CAP supports through National and Regional Partnership Plans.
"Negotiations on these proposals are now underway between member states and the European Commission.
"Ireland will play an active role in these discussions, including during its presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of 2026."
DAFM said this consultation focuses on key elements of the proposed EU CAP regulations from 2028-2034.
These include:
Feedback received through this consultation will be used to inform Ireland’s engagement in the ongoing EU negotiations, DAFM said.
It said that the public's input matters to identify key issues, to highlight practical impacts for farmers, and to determine Ireland's priorities for the CAP post-2027.
Submissions can be made by completing an online consultation questionnaire, which sets out a series of structured questions.
This questionnaire is available to download on the department's website.
Submissions should be submitted by 5:00p.m on Friday, March 20.
DAFM said as it stands, member states have completed an initial technical examination of EU CAP proposals.
"Discussions are now moving from understanding the regulation to shaping it," DAFM said.
"National positions need to be clarified and consolidated.
"Public consultation forms part of that."
