Prices at fuel pumps should reflect 'underlying realities' - AA

AA Ireland has said that any price increases in fuel for motorists should be based on "verifiable changes".

The association told Agriland that it is "aware of reports of price increases at fuel pumps in recent days" and the concern this is causing motorists and households.

Following the outbreak of the US-Israel war with Iran, there have been prices increases in petrol, diesel, marked gas oil (green diesel) and home heating oil reported across the country.

The conflict in the Middle East has led to a spike in global gas and oil prices since the weekend.

In a statement, the AA said that at present fuel supply to the Irish market "remains stable".

"Given current supply conditions, any sharp or immediate increases in prices will understandably raise questions among consumers.

"While international events can have implications for global energy markets over time particularly if uncertainty persists pricing at the pumps should reflect underlying wholesale costs and supply realities.

"Consumers should not be unfairly impacted by speculative or disproportionate price movements.

"We would encourage transparency across the sector and expect that any price adjustments are based on verifiable changes in wholesale or distribution costs.

"Irish motorists deserve clarity and fairness, particularly during periods of international instability."

AA Ireland said it will continue to monitor the situation closely and advocate on behalf of consumers to ensure fair treatment and value at the pumps.
