A total of 243,000 people have attended the 2026 National Ploughing Championships.

75,000 attended today, adding to the 77,000 who attended on Tuesday and 91,000 who attended on Wednesday.

The winner of the 2026 National Junior Brown Bread Baking Competition has been announced.

Well done to Cara Wall from Co. Dublin. That loaf looks delicious!

This year's competition sees the addition of this Junior Brown Bread Baking Competition, giving young brown bread bakers aged 12–18 the chance to showcase their skills alongside Ireland’s best home bakers.

The Agriland team has been out at the ploughing fields speaking to judges and competitors to hear what makes the competition at the 2026 National Ploughing Championships so special.

Machinery trends evolve at Ploughing

Agriland's Joshua Kelly caught up with Farm Tractor and Machinery Trade Association executive director Michael Farrelly at the Ploughing.

Michael spoke about the role the National Ploughing Championships play in putting machinery in front of potential customers for agricultural machinery manufacturers and dealers.

He also talked about the trends he has seen in the Irish agricultural machinery market.

Breaking down barriers for women in agriculture

On the Agriland stage, we are now learning about a project working to support women in farming with practical solutions, skills and confidence.

Claire Brennan and Bridget Clarke are discussing the 'Making Farms Work for Women' project, which is working alongside 60 women farmers across north Co. Mayo to address real, everyday challenges on farms.

As we enter the final hours of Ploughing 2026, National Ploughing Association assistant managing director Anna Marie McHugh is on stage to tell us about her highlights from this year.

Anna Marie said the week of the Ploughing each year is an important platform for rural Ireland and agriculture.

Agriland's Charles O'Donnell caught up with Mayo TD Paul Lawless today.

Deputy Lawless this week said that survey findings revealing that one in three farmers intend to leave the sector within the next five years are “absolutely damning”.

The findings of the survey – conducted by leading Irish research agency Opinions, and commissioned by Agriland and the ICMSA - have highlighted the fast-approaching concern regarding farm succession.

MEP Ciaran Mullooly and TD Michael Fitzmaurice are now on the Agriland stage for a passionate discussion on issues facing the agriculture sector.

CAP, fuel costs and fertiliser are among the topics that have come up.

ICMSA’s Denis Drennan has told Agriland’s Cathal O’Shea that this is a taxing year for farmers and there is a lot of worry out there around cashflow and fodder supply.

He also gave an overview of current global milk supply and demand.

Recently, a €30 million facility in Nobber, Co. Meath that converts agri-food waste into biomethane was connected to Ireland’s national gas network.

Agriland managing director Cormac Farrelly has met with European Commissioner Christophe Hansen and Minister for Agriculture Martin Heydon today.

Back on stage we have Tom Cronin of Our Food Roots and farmer and social media star Eoin Lynch.

Tom Cronin is highlighting recent research by Our Food Roots that found nine in 10 are proud of the quality of Irish food and drink.

However, that support sits alongside a concern about the future, with eight in 10 believing future generations are at risk of losing their connection to where food comes from.

Eoin Lynch said farming is a "hard game" and a "dying trade".

He feels it is very hard for young farmers to get a start in the sector.

It's a big day for ploughing competitors.

The final day features competitions including the senior conventional and reversible test matches, horse ploughing and the vintage six nations competition.

Commissioners meet farmers at the Ploughing

EU Commissioner for Agriculture Christophe Hansen along with Commissioner Michael McGrath and Minister for Agriculture Martin Heydon have met with the ICMSA at the Ploughing today.

We'll keep you up to date on discussions the European commissioners are having with farmers.

Horse ploughing takes centre stage

Twelve pairs of these truly prestige animals took part in a range of competition classes scheduled for one of the most picturesque locations in Ireland on day two.

The number of competitors is well up on previous years.

Ground conditions have remained excellent, a factor of particular significance given that the horses traditionally plough out of grass, not stubble.

We're delighted to have a first-of-its-kind school project in Ireland - a restored vintage Porsche tractor - on display.

Ballymahon's Mercy Secondary School has joined up with Ronald McDonald House Charities Ireland to raffle off the fully-restored vintage tractor.

The crowds are making their way in for day three of Ploughing 2026!

168,000 people attended the event over the first two days.

National Ploughing Association managing director Anna May McHugh said so far there has been a "great atmosphere right across the site, with visitors enjoying everything from the ploughing and livestock competitions to the food, fashion and entertainment".

"It is wonderful to see such a wide mix of people enjoying the championships," McHugh added.

The Agriland team will be out and about across the site today chatting to punters and seeing what all the exhibitors have to offer.
