TAMS

The latest data shows there was over €200,000 issued to farmers for the Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Schemes (TAMS) this week.

€119,428 was paid out under the current TAMS 3 programme, with €89,548 issued through TAMS 2.

TAMS, which is co-funded by the EU, provides grants to farmers to build and-or improve a specified range of farm buildings and equipment on their holdings.

Among the ten measures available in TAMS 3 is the Solar Capital Investment Scheme (SCIS), which provides support to farmers wishing to invest in renewable energy.

The scheme is ring-fenced with its own investment ceiling of €90,000, and grant-aided at the enhanced rate of 60%.

In response to a recent parliamentary question from Sinn Féin TD Ruairí Ó Murchú, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Martin Heydon said SCIS has been "hugely popular with farmers".

There has been 5,529 SCIS applications received under the first ten tranches of the scheme.

"To date, a total of 3,167 approvals have issued, with payments of €22.9 million issuing to 1,232 applicants. Approvals continue to issue on a daily basis," the minister said.
