The chair of Bord Bia has 'waived' his right to both fees and expenses since taking up the role in February 2024, the organisation has confirmed.

The fee payable to the chair of Bord Bia is €20,520 annually.

Larry Murrin, who is the chair of Bord Bia, is also the CEO of Dawn Farm Foods.

According to Bord Bia, Murrin has "consistently waived his right to both fees and expenses and has not received fees or expenses since becoming chair of the board".

Bord Bia stated that "a schedule of the fees, and travel and subsistence expenses" is paid to board members in relation to their attendance at meetings of the board.

In the organisation's latest published annual report and accounts for 2024 Bord Bia sets out details of its board members fees and expenses.

Larry Murrin is currently at the centre of a storm over whether his role as chair of Bord Bia is, as some have claimed "incompatible" with his role as CEO of Dawn Farms.

The Irish company confirmed that the business sources some beef from Brazil. According to Dawn Farms, Brazilian beef accounted for 1% of its beef supply in 2025.

The country's largest farming organisations, as well as the Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald, have said they believe Larry Murrin's role as chair of Bord Bia is "incompatible" with his role with Dawn Farms.

However he has the support of the Taoiseach, Tánaiste and the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine to remain as the chair of the organisation.

Earlier this week the Tánaiste Simon Harris emphatically told the Dáil that the government will not remove Larry Murrin as chair of Bord Bia.

Meanwhile Murrin during a sit down interview with Agriland said he believed his record stands" as "a passionate advocate" for the Irish food industry.

He also strongly rejected claims that his role as chair of Bord Bia is "incompatible" with leading a multinational company.

The position of chair of Bord Bia is for a period of three years and Murrin's appointment was made following a competitive process managed by the State Boards service of the Public Appointments Service (PAS).

Murrin told Agriland that he "applied" for the role in the same way other candidates would have done.

"When the role of chair of Bord Bia came up I was at a time in my life when I said - would I actually consider that I'm qualified at this point to do that and I believed I was - impartially and without fear or favour.

"It was the first job I had applied for in 45 years, I went through interview, nervously I might add - I think it was the first interview I had attended in 45 years.

"From that process I was recommended by the public appointments process to the minister and I was duly appointed," he said.

Murrin is scheduled to appear before the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture and Food on Thursday next week where he will set out his company's sourcing policy and why he wants to remain as chair of Bord Bia.
