The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Agriculture and Food will meet this week to continue discussions on the post-2027 Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).
The committee meets on Wednesday (January 21) at 3:30pm in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House.
Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon is due to attend the meeting.
Speaking ahead of the meeting, chairperson of the Oireachtas committee and Cork North-West TD, Aindrias Moynihan said: "We return to our engagement on the CAP post-2027 and its implications for the agriculture sector and rural communities on Wednesday with the minister.
"The committee will again emphasise the need for a transparent policy framework and responsiveness to emerging challenges.
“We have been very vocal in our concerns at the proposed EU’s plan to restructure the current two-pillar CAP funding approach into a single National and Regional Partnerships fund from the commencement of the next EU budgetary cycle in 2028.
"The committee has heard from various stakeholders at previous meetings of their concerns at the new proposed funding model and the overall reduction in funding for the proposed CAP."
The deputy said that subsequent to these meetings, the committee submitted a political contribution to the EU institutions and the EU Commission, who have given an undertaking to reply to the committee.
“We will take the opportunity in the meeting to get a further understanding of the department’s priorities and their concerns for the proposed CAP post-2027 and use this knowledge to decide the further actions of the committee," Deputy Moynihan added.
The Joint Committee on Agriculture and Food has 14 members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
