Met Éireann warns of heavy rain in Cork and Kerry

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow weather warning for heavy rain in counties Cork and Kerry this weekend.

The national forecaster said the heavy falls will bring a risk of spot flooding and difficult travelling conditions.

The warning will come into force at midday on Saturday (February 14) and will remain in place until midnight.

Met Éireann has also issued a separate warning for rainfall in counties Cavan, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Longford, Mayo, Roscommon, and Sligo.

The rain which will be heavy at times and turning to sleet or snow together with strengthening winds will lead to the difficult travel conditions and poor visibility.

This warning will come into force at midday on Saturday until midnight.

Meanwhile, a Status Yellow alert for low temperatures and ice for the entire country will come into force at 9:00p.m today and remain in place until 10:00a.m on Saturday (February 14).

The low temperatures of -1° to -3° generally will bring a risk of sharp frost and icy conditions in all counties.

Met Éireann said this may cause hazardous travel conditions on road and underfoot, along with potential travel disruption.

The UK Met Office has issued an ice warning for counties Antrim, Down, Tyrone and Derry.

That warning will be valid from 8:00p.m tonight until 10:00a.m on Saturday.

The rain will gradually clear later in the day with just a few isolated showers following in the north and west. Afternoon highs of 3° to 7°C in moderate to fresh northerly winds, strong and gusty at times in the south and east, easing later.

Tonight will be very cold with lowest temperatures of 0° to -4° in light variable breezes.

It will be mainly dry, apart the odd wintry shower in Ulster and north Connacht.
