Weather conditions will be mixed this week with some rain or showers possible at times, according to Met Éireann.
This morning (Monday, March 23), it will be cloudy and chilly, but mostly dry across the country.
Cloud is due to thicken in the north-west later bringing light rain or drizzle in Connacht and Ulster, staying dry elsewhere.
Highest afternoon temperatures of 9° to 13°C in south-westerly breezes.
Tonight will be cloudy, some patchy rain or drizzle in the west, remaining mostly dry in Leinster.
It will feel mild with overnight lows of 6° to 10°, some mist or fog patches will form.
The weather forecast shows that conditions will become more unsettled tomorrow (Tuesday, March 24) with rain spreading across the country, some heavy falls possible in the afternoon.
South-westerly winds will veer westerly, becoming strong and gusty at times. Highest daytime temperatures of 10° to 13°.
Widespread showers on Tuesday night with fresh to strong north-westerly winds. Some of the showers may be wintry, especially on higher ground with lowest temperatures of 1° to 4°.
Wednesday will be wet and blustery with showers becoming widespread, some wintry falls are possible again on higher ground.
Some isolated sunny spells will develop later in the day with afternoon highs of 5° to 9°.
Showers will ease on Wednesday night with some clear spells developing later. North-westerly breezes will ease too with overnight lows of 1° to 4°.
Thursday will bring some good sunny spells and light breezes. Highest temperatures of 7° to 9°.
Friday will be another unsettled day with rain extending across the country, some heavy falls in places.
Met Éireann said that rainfall amounts over the coming week will vary with parts of the south expected to remain below average.
Elsewhere, it is expected there will be average amounts or above average accumulations.
This week, temperatures are expected to decrease slightly, but soil temperatures are expected to remain average or slightly above.
Drying conditions will be good today but will deteriorate from Tuesday onwards.
There will also be good opportunities for spraying on Monday, but this will be limited from Tuesday due to frequent rainfall and breezy conditions.
Met Éireann said that well and moderately drained soils are currently trafficable, but poorly drained soils are saturated.
More unsettled conditions from Tuesday onwards will result in a deterioration in soil conditions.
As a result, all soils will become saturated with many poorly drained soils becoming waterlogged.
