Met Éireann: Mild with more unsettled weather this week

Met Éireann has said that this week will bring mild and unsettled weather with some rain or showers at times.

Rain and drizzle will develop in the south-west this morning (Monday, February 23) and extend to all areas during the day.

Highest afternoon temperatures of 10° to 13°C in light to moderate south to south-west winds.

Tonight will be mainly cloudy with light rain, drizzle and mist. Overnight lows of 7° to 9° in moderate to fresh southerly winds.

The national forecaster said that Tuesday will be a mostly cloudy day with further patchy light rain, drizzle and mist.

During the afternoon, rain will develop in the west and spread inland. Highest temperatures of 10° to 12° in moderate to fresh southerly winds.

It will remain cloudy in most areas on Tuesday night, with some heavy falls of rain possible. Lowest temperatures of 8° to 10° with southerly winds easing.

The rain will clear eastwards on Wednesday, followed by showers, some of which may be heavy and fall as hail.

Highest afternoon temperatures of 11° to 14° in light to moderate south to southwest breezes.

Showers will die out on Wednesday night with some drier spells for a time. However, more rain will arrive in the west during the night.

Lowest temperatures of 5° to 9° with light to moderate southwest breezes freshening towards morning.

The showery rain will spread across the country on Thursday morning, with some heavy falls and strong winds possible. Highest temperatures of 10° to 13°.

The rain is expected to clear on Friday with sunshine and showers following. It will become colder with afternoon highs of 5° to 9° degrees in fresh, gusty west to northwest winds.

The current indications are that the unsettled weather will continue next weekend.

Met Éireann

Over the coming week, Met Éireann said that rainfall levels are expected to be between 115% and 255% of average values.

The wettest conditions will be across the western half of the country.

Mean air temperatures across the week will be above normal, approximately 2° to 4° higher than average. Mean soil temperatures will continue above average.

Drying conditions will be poor over the coming days, while there be limited opportunities for spraying this week with mostly unsettled conditions.

Met Éireann said that all poorly drained soils and some moderately drained soils are waterlogged, while all other soils are saturated.

Over the coming week, little change is expected for soil conditions, with the potential for more moderately drained soils to become waterlogged.
