Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow weather warning for heavy rain in several counties tomorrow (Sunday, March 1).
The national forecaster said the warning will come into affect from midnight tonight and remain in place for 24 hours.
The alert currently applies to counties Cork, Galway, Kerry and Mayo.
The spells of heavy rain could lead to focalised flooding, hazardous travelling conditions and poor visibility.
The weather forecast for today shows that cloudy conditions with outbreaks of showery rain in Munster and west Connacht will slowly extend northeastwards during the afternoon and evening.
Some drier weather with some sunny spells will develop across southwestern and some western counties later.
Highest temperatures of 6° to 10°C with southerly winds increasing moderate, occasionally fresh in the rain.
The winds will veer southwesterly as rain clears and decrease light to moderate.
Tonight, wet and breezy conditions are expected to move up across the country. Some mist in places. Overnight lows of 2° to 6° in a freshening southerly wind.
Met Éireann said that Sunday will be dull and breezy with some outbreaks of rain and drizzle. There may be patches of hill, mist and coastal fog in parts.
It will be windy with heavier falls of rain in the south and west, bringing a risk of spot flooding.
Highest afternoon temperatures of 10° or 11° degrees. The southerly winds will increase fresh to strong and gusty, reaching near gale to gale force in some coastal parts later in the day.
