As counties in the east and south-east continue to cope with the damage caused by Storm Chandra, Met Éireann has warned of further heavy rain.
The national forecaster has issued a Status Yellow rainfall warning for tomorrow (Friday, January 30).
The alert, which will run from 9:00a.m until midnight, currently applies to counties Carlow; Dublin; Kilkenny; Louth; Waterford; Wexford and Wicklow.
Met Éireann said the potential for further heavy rain and showers to fall on saturated ground, combined with high river levels, may lead to localised flooding, river flooding and difficult travel conditions.
The UK Met Office has issued a similar warning for Northern Ireland from midnight until 6:00p.m on Friday.
A Status Yellow rain warning is currently in place for Carlow; Dublin; Kilkenny; Wexford; Wicklow and Waterford.
More heavy rain and showers are expected across these counties today.
Met Éireann has said that unsettled weather conditions will continue for the next seven days.
It will be wetter than average for most of the country with accumulations generally highest in the east and south-east, where up to four times the weekly average rainfall is possible.
Temperatures will fluctuate a little over the coming week but overall will be within a degree of normal. Little change is expected in mean soil temperatures over the coming week.
Due to the unsettled conditions over the coming week, there will be little to no improvement to soil conditions, but some moderately drained soils could see an improvement in soil moisture deficits in the west.
