Aurivo Co-op Livestock Mart in Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo, hosted its weanling sale on Friday, March 27, and its weekly general cattle and calf sale on Thursday, March 26.

Speaking to Agriland after the sales, mart manager Teresa Gibsey said heifers fetched prices from €690-€2,250/head, or €3.03-€5.36/kg.

Heifers weighing over 500kg averaged €3.97/kg or €2,227/head, with a top of €3.97/kg paid.

400-500kg heifers averaged €4.16/kg or €1,945/head, with a peak of €4.90/kg.

The heifers weighing under 300kg averaged €4.20/kg or €1,110/head with top price of €4.50/kg or €1,270/head.

560kg Charolais heifer sold for €2,520 or €4.50/kg;
577kg Angus heifer sold for €2,140 or €3.71/kg;
480kg Charolais heifer sold for €2,200 or €4.58/kg;
295kg Angus heifer sold for €1,270 or €4.31/kg;
273kg Hereford heifer sold for €1,210 or €4.44/kg.

Bullocks achieved prices from €950-€2,280/head or €3.58-€5.36/kg.

In the 400-500kg range, bullocks averaged €5.28/kg or €2,240/head.

300-400kg bullocks averaged €4.50/kg or €1,350/head and the bullocks weighing under 300kg averaged €3.61/kg or €960/head.

Dry cow prices ranged from €880-€2,020/head, with an average of €1,780/head or €2.63/kg paid.

A 750kg Friesian cow sold for €2,020 or €2.69/kg, while a 700kg Limousin cow sold for €2,000 or €2.86/kg.

Calf prices

Calf prices in the sale ranged from €130-€555 with an average of €6.14/kg paid for calves in the sale.

Hereford heifer calves weighing from 40-50kg averaged €306/head or €6.74/kg.

Hereford heifers weighing 50-70kg averaged €317/head or €5.61/kg.

Friesian bull calves weighing 40-50kg averaged €203/head or €4.74/kg.

Hereford bull calves weighing 50-60kg averaged €367/head or €6.86/kg.

An Angus heifer calf weighing 85kg sold for €555.

Weanling bulls

The mart hosted its weanling sale on Friday, March 27 with lighter weanling bulls under 200kg averaging €3.68/kg or €700/head.

200-350kg bulls averaged €4.11/kg or €1,145/head, peaking at €5.65/kg or €1,880/head.

350kg-450kg bulls averaged €4.33/kg or €1,740/head and reached €4.72/kg or €1,910/head.

Over 450kg bulls averaged €4.76/kg or €2,425/head, and peaked at €5.87/kg or €2,780/head.
