Kanturk Mart in Co. Cork hosted its weekly general cattle sale on Tuesday, February 10.
Speaking to Agriland after the sale, Kanturk Mart's Finbarr Taylor said there "was a very busy trade with a strong entry of almost 500 cattle crossing the scales and an excellent 99% clearance achieved".
In the cow sale, he said the dry cows "were an exceptional trade throughout the sale, with a top price of €2,320 paid for one Friesian cow weighing 790kg".

Suckler cows with calves at foot sold from €2,000-€2,980 in the sale "reflecting the strong demand and quality on offer".
Sample prices from the heifer sale at Kanturk Mart:
In the bullock sale, an entry of 11 Friesian bullocks with an average weight of 550kg sold for €1,900/head or €3.46/kg.
Another entry of six Hereford bullocks with an average weight of 329kg sold for €4.77/kg or €1,570/head.
Other sample bullock prices:
In the calf sale, prices reached up to €640/head for two 70kg Hereford calves, and three Friesian bull calves weighing 61kg sold for €290/head.

"Overall, it was a great trade across all sections with a very positive tone in the ring." Taylor said.
