Man arrested and charged over 2023 Cork burglary

A man who was arrested as part of an investigation into the damage of agricultural equipment earlier this week was released, and then rearrested and charged in relation to a separate incident.

Gardaí said on Wednesday (March 18) that a man was arrested in relation to alleged criminal damage caused to agricultural machinery in Co. Cork, which to place in July last year.

That arrest was part of an investigation into the theft of cattle, burglaries and criminal damage of agricultural and construction equipment in the west Cork region.

In a statement earlier this week, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána confirmed: "Gardaí have arrested a man, aged in his late 20s, in relation to the criminal damage of agricultural equipment that occurred in Drimoleague, west Cork, in July 2025.

That statement said the man was detained in a garda station in the west Cork area.

In a follow up statement, gardaí confirmed that the man in question was released from custody yesterday (Thursday, March 19) before being arrested again.

A file is set to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in relation to the first arrest on criminal damage.

The second arrest, for which the man has been charged, is in relation to a burglary that occurred in Skibbereen, Co. Cork, in October 2023.

It is understood that the man appeared before Bandon District Court today (Friday, March 20).

Gardaí said their investigations are continuing.

The latest statement from the gardaí confirmed: "The man, aged in his late 20s, arrested in relation to the criminal damage of agricultural equipment that occurred in Drimoleague, west Cork in July 2025, has been released from the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, pending a file to the director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

"The man has since been rearrested and charged in relation to investigations into a burglary at Skibbereen, Co. Cork (October 2023)," the garda statement added.

"Investigations are ongoing," the statement said.
