John Deere remains most popular brand among Irish farmers

It seems John Deere remains the most popular brand of tractor in the country according to data from the Farm Tractor and Machinery Trade Association (FTMTA).

The latest available data for 2024 shows that green and yellow livery (JD 422) was the most popular in terms of tractor sales across the country, followed by New Holland (320) and Massey Ferguson (320) tied for second place and Case (202) in third place.

The largest number of tractor registrations was in Co. Cork with 230 new registrations followed by Tipperary which recorded 161 new tractor registrations and Wexford with 105.

In total in 2024, there were 1817 new tractors registered, according to the FTMTA.

Meanwhile, the FTMTA has said that 2,067 new tractors were registered in 2025.

This figure, which is a moving total figure, is 14% higher when compared with the 1,817 new units registered in the previous year.

The latest data shows that the December 2025 new tractor market at 16 units was 24% lower compared with the same month in 2024.

The 161hp-200hp category was the most popular power band in 2025 and accounted for 24.43% of all new tractor registrations last year.

The 50hp-120hp category accounted for 19.21% of all new tractor registrations in 2025. The over 200hp category accounted for 11.7% of all new tractors during 2025.

Cork continued to deliver the highest number of new tractor registrations during 2025 at 295 units, while Tipperary was ranked in second place with 197 units followed by Wexford, at 120 units.
