Over 20 TDs in Dáil Éireann have declared that they owned farmland or forestry during 2025, according to new data.
Under the Ethics in Public Office Acts, members of both the Dáil and Seanad are required to make an annual statement of their registrable interests.
This includes other occupations, shares, directorships, land (including property), gifts, property or land rented out, travel facilities, contracts and paid positions.
The clerks of the Dáil and Seanad are responsible for collating the information at the beginning of every year and sending it to the Standards in Public Office Commission (SIPO).
The latest edition of the Dáil register of interests shows Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine and Fine Gael TD Martin Heydon listed himself as a farmer/lessor.
He declared farmland at Blackrath, Colbinstown, Co. Kildare and Aghcross, Ballickmoyler, Co. Laois in 2025.
Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) Michael Healy-Rae also listed himself as a farmer.
The Independent TD had an extensive property portfolio in 2025 which included 100ac of farmland and forestry in Kilgarvan Co. Kerry, another 4ac of farmland in Kilgarvan and 42ac of forestry at Coologues, Kilgarvan.
Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture and Fianna Fáil TD Timmy Dooley had woodland in Mountshannon, Co. Clare.
The register shows that Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture and Independent TD Noel Grealish did not declare any land ownership last year.
Fine Gael TD and farmer William Aird declared that he owned farmland in Nutgrove, Raheenahoran and Pallas, Co. Laois.
Minister of Enterprise, Trade and Employment and Fine Gael TD Peter Burke stated that he is also a farmer with farmland at Slanestown and Clonmore, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.
Fianna Fáil TD Michael Cahill said that he is a farmer with farmland at Rossbeigh and Droum at Glenbeigh, Co. Kerry.
Catherine Callaghan, a Fine Gael TD, declared that she had farmland at Craan, Kildavin, Co. Carlow which was being leased.
Fine Gael’s Micheál Carrigy said he had land/woodland at Ballinalee, Co. Longford. He also had a 25% share in land from which he derived an income of less than €2,600.
Leader of Independent Ireland Michael Collins declared a farmhouse and farming at Ardravinna, Lowertown, Schull, Co. Cork, along with farming at Lissacaha, Schull and Knock, Schull.
Fianna Fáil TD and farmer Cathal Crowe declared farmland and a farmhouse at Woodcock Hill, Meelick and Heathmount, Cratloe, Co. Clare.
The TD noted the farmhouse is in a poor state of repair and requires renovation before it can be habitable.
Independent Ireland TD Michael Fitzmaurice declared that he was also a farmer, agricultural contractor, turf cutter and involved in plant hire.
He listed rural farmlands at Strangefort and Keelogues, Williamstown, Co. Galway.
Fianna Fáil’s Pat The Cope Gallagher declared forestry and woodland at Dungloe, Co. Donegal.
Independent TD and farmer Danny Healy-Rae declared around 50ac at Fossa, Kilgarvan; 38ac in Gullaba, Kilgarvan and 3ac at Gortnaboul, Kilgarvan, Co. Kerry.
Independent TD Mattie McGrath had a mountain farmland at Newcastle, Co. Tipperary, which he said was farmed by a family member.
Fianna Fáil TD and suckler farmer Michael Moynihan declared farmland in at Meens, Kiskeam, Mallow, Co. Cork, Reanagoshil, Newmarket, Co. Cork and Dromscarra, Kiskeam, Mallow, Co. Cork.
He also had forestry at Meens, Kiskeam, Mallow, Co. Cork.
Ceann Comhairle Verona Murphy listed farmland at Rosetown, Ramsgrange, New Ross, Co. Wexford.
Sinn Féin’s Natasha Newsome Drennan declared farmland at Gorrue, Knocktopher and Crann, Dunnamaggin in Co. Kilkenny.
Independent TD Richard O’Donoghue declared 2.5ac of agricultural land in Coolruss, Bruree, Co. Limerick which he said was cut for fodder annually.
Fianna Fáil TD Seán Ó Fearghaíl stated that he was farming with his wife and son in Co. Kildare. He declared 100ac at Fennor and Shanacloon, Co. Kildare.
Fianna Fáil TD Eamon Scanlon declared 27ac of farmland at Camross, Ballymote, Co. Sligo.
Fine Gael TD Edward Timmins listed 1.75ac at Sruhaun, Baltinglass, Co. Wicklow which he said was used by a relation.
Gillian Toole, the Independent TD, declared farmland in Curkeen, Bradystown, Rathoath, Co. Meath.
