The Local Authority Waters Programme (LAWPRO) is inviting people from across the country to enter its 'My Favourite Waterbody' 2026 competition.

The photography competition celebrates the country’s rivers, streams, lakes, and coastal waters.

The organisers said: "We encourage everyone to explore and appreciate their local waters, whether it’s a quiet stream, a winding river, or a favourite beach.

"Our natural waters are places to explore, enjoy, and connect with and 'My Favourite Waterbody' is a great way for people to share their appreciation of the waterbodies that sustain and surround us.

"We would like to hear why you love your favourite waterbody, so please include a few lines with your entry."

Conditions

The photos, which should inspire people to go out and enjoy nature, can be taken using any smartphone, compact camera or DLSR camera.

Entries from those under 18 years-of-age must be submitted by their parent or guardian.

If the image includes children, only a parent or guardian may submit the content.

The competition gives participants a chance to showcase their favourite waterbody and why it is special to them.

Prizes

The overall winner will receive a €550 voucher for Sheen Falls Lodge in Kenmare, Co. Kerry. There will also be three runner-up prizes.

The top photos will be featured in LAWPRO’s 2026 calendar and winners will receive a calendar along with their prize.

All photos must be taken between within the last six months on the island of Ireland, including Ireland’s islands and marine territory.

Photos in the format of JPEG, PNG or TIF (maximum 15 MB) must be submitted to LAWPRO via its dedicated application portal by 5:00p.m on Friday, May 22.

The photographer must not have won a previous prize for the photo they are entering and the winners will be decided on by a judging panel.
