Horses, dogs and a trailer were among some of the items seized by gardaí in a recent search operation in Co. Kilkenny.
The multi-agency operation, which was spearheaded by An Garda Síochána, rescued 15 dogs and a number of horses in the Hebron area last Monday (February 23).
15 vehicles were tested by officers at the scene for marked diesel and four were found positive, which resulted in fines being issued.
Gardaí also appealing for an owner of a suspected stolen Ifor Williams trailer, which was recovered at the scene.
Additionally, €3,000 worth of heroin, alongside €7,000 worth of cocaine, was located in the search, which officers suspected was for future sale and supply.
The operation was a joint effort which included officers from Revenue, Customs and Community Engagement, in conjunction with Kilkenny County Council, the local dog warden, Greyhound Racing Ireland, and charities Irish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA) and My Lovely Horse Rescue.
In a social media post, My Lovely Horse Rescue said that the collaborative operation was focused on "tackling animal cruelty, ensuring compliance with animal welfare legislation, and promoting responsible pet ownership across the county".
Upon arriving at the scene, members from My Lovely Horse Rescue and ISPCA examined a number of horses and dogs, some of which were as young as puppies.
The condition of the animals amid their living conditions ranged widely, however My Lovely Horse stated that "all animals are now safe" after veterinary treatment.
Following the multi-agency operation, the charity said: "By working together, we strengthen enforcement, improve animal protection standards, and support responsible ownership throughout Kilkenny.
"Partnerships like these are vital in ensuring legislation is applied fairly and effectively while keeping animal welfare at the forefront."
