Gardaí: Cattle injured after road traffic incident in Kerry

Gardaí have confirmed that a number of cattle were injured during a road traffic incident in Co. Kerry.

It is understood that the incident took place in Rathmore, in the east of the county, on Tuesday (February 24).

Gardaí have confirmed that no people were injured during the incident.

An investigation has been launched into the incident.

In a statement, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána told Agriland: "Gardaí received a report of a road traffic incident involving cattle that occurred in the Rathmore area, Co. Kerry in the early hours of Tuesday morning, February 24, 2026".

"No injuries have been reported by at this time. A number of cattle was injured during the incident.

"Investigations are ongoing," they added.

Separately, horses, dogs and a trailer were among some of the items seized by gardaí in search operation in Co. Kilkenny this week.

The multi-agency operation, which was spearheaded by An Garda Síochána, rescued 15 dogs and a number of horses in the Hebron area last Monday (February 23).

15 vehicles were tested by officers at the scene for marked diesel and four were found positive, which resulted in fines being issued.

Gardaí also appealing for an owner of a suspected stolen Ifor Williams trailer, which was recovered at the scene.

€3,000 worth of heroin, alongside €7,000 worth of cocaine, was also located by officers during the search.

The operation was a joint effort which included officers from Revenue, Customs and Community Engagement, in conjunction with Kilkenny County Council, the local dog warden, Greyhound Racing Ireland, and charities Irish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA) and My Lovely Horse Rescue.
