FTMTA: New tractor registrations up 14% in 2025

The Farm Tractor and Machinery Trade Association (FTMTA) has said that 2,067 new tractors were registered in 2025.

This figure, which is a moving total figure, is 14% higher when compared with the 1,817 new units registered in the previous year.

The latest data shows that the December 2025 new tractor market at 16 units was 24% lower compared with the same month in 2024.

Tractor registrations

The 161hp-200hp category was the most popular power band in 2025 and accounted for 24.43% of all new tractor registrations last year.

The 50hp-120hp category accounted for 19.21% of all new tractor registrations in 2025. The over 200hp category accounted for 11.7% of all new tractors during 2025.

Cork continued to deliver the highest number of new tractor registrations during 2025 at 295 units, while Tipperary was ranked in second place with 197 units followed by Wexford, at 120 units.

The data also shows that 239 imported used tractors were first-time registered in Ireland in December 2025, 21 more units than in December 2024.

The year-to-date used tractor registration figure at 2,971 units was 204 units more than was registered for the full year of 2024.

FTMTA

According to the FTMTA, the Irish market for new telescopic loaders for 2025 increased by 42.86% to 754 units, compared with 618 units in the previous year.

The two leading brands Manitou and JCB accounted for 72% of the total market.

There were 38 imported used telescopic loaders registered in December 2025, up from 37 in December 2024.

The Irish wheeled loader market recorded an increased number of new registrations in December 2025 at six units compared with December 2024 at four units, which was a market increase of 33%.

197 new wheeled loaders were registered in Ireland during 2025 up from 160 in 2024, a 23.13% increase.

11 imported used wheeled loaders were registered in December 2025 compared with 4 in December 2024.

The Irish backhoe loader market increased in December 2025 compared with a year previously, with two new machines registered.

There were two used backhoe loaders registered in December 2025 in Ireland.

For the period from January to December 2025 there were 54 new backhoe loaders registered in Ireland, up from 52 registered in 2024.

There were three new utility terrain vehicles (UTVs) registered in Ireland in December 2025, unchanged from December 2024.

For 2025, there were 271 new UTVs registered in Ireland compared with 281 for 2024, a 3.5% year-to-date decline.

There were three used imported UTV registered for the first time in December 2025, and for the full year of 2025 there were 40 used UTV imports.

The FTMTA Statistics Service Report is compiled from monthly raw data received from the Irish Revenue Commissioners who are responsible for all first-time registrations of new and used vehicles imported into Ireland.
