FSAI recall alert after beef product mispacked as chicken and pasta

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has issued a recall alert for a beef product, that also contained some fish and gluten, that was mispacked, ending up in packaging for a chicken and pasta product.

The issue concerns Dunnes Stores own brand ready meals, specifically Beef Ragu and Conchiglie Pasta, some of which ended up with the packaging and label for Chicken Arrabbiata with Penne Pasta, therefore making the labelling incorrect.

The recall concerns pack sizes of 400g (according to the label for the chicken product), with a use-by date of February 1 and a batch code of E2236C204.

The FSAI noted that the beef ragu product contains fish and barley, which contains gluten, which is not mentioned in the label used.

This may make this particular batch unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant to fish or barley, the authority said.

The FSAI is advising consumers with those allergies or intolerances not to eat this beef ragu product.

The affected batch is being recalled, the FSAI confirmed.

Mispacked products

A similar food alert was issued earlier in the month, for chicken products, in which one product ended up with the label of the other.

The issue concerned product from the Purepower Nutrition line.

A product labelled as Chicken Chow Mein was packed with a label for the Chicken & Chorizo Paella product from the same line.

Therefore, all labelling was incorrect, the FSAI said.

The issue concerned a product labelled as Purepower Nutrition Chicken Chow Mein in pack size 400g, and a use-by date January 15, 2026.

Recall notices were displayed at point-of-sale.

Retailers were requested to remove the implicated batch from sale and display recall notices at point-of-sale.

Consumers were advised not to eat the implicated batch.

Separately this month, the FSAI also issued recall notices for other batches of Purepower Nutrition Chicken & Chorizo Paella.

The recall notice concerned all use-by dates up to and including January 17, with a pack size of 400g.

This product contained milk which is not declared on the ingredients list on the affected batches, the FSAI said.

This may make the implicated batches unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of milk.
