Two farmers feature in a new TV series, 'Pobal Mhúscraí', on TG4, focusing on the Múscraí Gaeltacht in Co. Cork.
The series is starting on Thursday, March 12 at 8:00p.m and will run for four weeks.
Dairy farmer Dónal Ó Loingsigh and sheep farmer Tadhg Ó Súilleabháin, who also keeps suckler cows, took part in the series, which spent the summer of 2025 in Múscraí in Co. Cork, meeting some of the locals and attending the many events that bring the community together.
Dónal, who farms at Doirín Álainn, tells the history of his farm, which was bought by his father, and how he improved more of the land that he now farms.
His son intends to keep working the farm and hopefully leave it in better condition again, we discover.
The problems caused by deer coming onto the land regularly are pinpointed by Dónal. He also explains his relationship with cheesemakers Cáis Cúil Aodha and how he supplies all their milk.
Viewers will also get a taste of the action and skill at the sheep shearing competition at the Top of Coome, described as Ireland's highest pub.
The Múscraí Gaeltacht consists of six distinct Irish speaking areas nestled in the mountains of north-west Co. Cork, between the Lee and Sulán Rivers.
The communities here - from Baile Mhúirne to Béal Átha an Ghaorthaidh, Cill na Martra to Ré na nDoirí, and Cúil Aodha to Béal Átha an Ghaorthaigh - are home to a creative and vibrant rural community proud of their heritage, language, and culture.
On a May morning, in the first episode of Mhúscraí, we meet Ruth Ní Riada and her father, Peadar, at Cathair Crobh Dearg, having descended from their annual pilgirmage to the Paps, and discuss some Mayday traditions.

There is a big occasion for the people of Cúil Aodha as they launch the upcoming Féile na Laoch, which is held every seven years.

In the third programme, we view Cúil Aodha’s outdoor swimming pool, a community amenity for exercise and water skills.
In Baile Mhúirne, Liadh Ní Riada has brought people together to celebrate the summer solstice, while Mícheál Ó Ceallacháin shares his passion for road bowling at a local event. Singer Máire Ní Chéileachair is honoured as the Aisling Gheal scheme celebrates 25 years of passing on the sean nós singing tradition.
In the final programme, Helen Uí Loinsigh highlights the skills of the local craft group in Ré na nDóirí. Cill na Martra’s Tidy Towns group await their results with anticipation, and Síle Uí Luasa and friends are busy gathering dressing for the Féile na Laoch stage in the local hedgerows.
We get a taste of the best of produce and animals at Taispeántas Talamhaíochta Bhaile Mhúirn Cúil Aodh. The big day has finally arrived as Féile na Laoch’s honours this year's ‘laochra’ at the all-night outdoor celebration of poets, musicians, artists, dancers, singers, writers, and sportspeople.
