ESB Networks has confirmed that around 20,000 homes, farms and businesses are without power this morning (Tuesday, January 27) due to Storm Chandra.

The storm brought strong winds and heavy rain overnight which has impacted the electricity network and led to power outages.

The third named storm of the current season has resulted in flooding and fallen trees in places.

Some flights and events have been cancelled due to the weather conditions.

"We acknowledge the disruption to family and commercial life this causes and thank impacted customers for their patience as our crews work to safely restore power. "

ESB Networks  is reminding the public that if they come across fallen wires or damaged electricity network, to never, ever touch or approach these as they are live and extremely dangerous.

"Please report any damage to electricity infrastructure by calling 1800 372 999," the spokesperson said.
