Gardaí in Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim recently stopped a driver after their vehicle was deemed not roadworthy and their trailer found to be overloaded.

Officers encountered the vehicle when on patrol yesterday morning (Monday, January 26) and upon examination, gardaí assessed that the vehicle was in a "dangerously defective" state.

In a social media post by An Garda Siochána Sligo/Leitrim, the vehicle can be seen towing a low loader with two other trailers on top, which has severely tilted the car's rear wheels due to the weight.

According to gardaí, the driver was arrested and charged following the incident and is set to appear at a sitting of the district court at a later date.

Separately, gardaí in Co. Kilkenny also stopped a driver who was towing an unsafe trailer earlier this month.

The Roads Policing Unit (RPU) from An Garda Síochána Kilkenny encountered a driver who was transporting a trailer with a large load of unsecured straw bales in the Leggettsrath area.

Officers at the scene pulled the driver over as they considered the pile of bales "was tilted sufficiently to make it a huge hazard to other road users".

Due to the risk posed, the driver was ordered to rectify the load immediately before continuing their journey.

Gardaí confirmed that the individual was issued a fixed charge notice (FCN) for failing to show due consideration to other road users under the Section 51(a) of the Road Traffic Act 2011.

In a social media post, An Garda Síochána Kilkenny stated: "The consequences of this load becoming dislodged could have been catastrophic, especially for a cyclist or pedestrian."
