DAFM receives over 36,000 BISS applications

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) has recieved 36,510 Basic Income Support for Sustainability (BISS) and other area-based scheme applications to date.

A spokesperson for the department confirmed to Agriland that 33,696 applications have been submitted by agents and 2,814 have been submitted by farmers.

The latest data shows that over 14,000 scheme applications have been submitted since March 15.

By comparison, the DAFM spokesperson said 26,975 applications were submitted at this time last year

To date, 35,134 applications have been submitted for the Areas of Natural Constraints Scheme (ANC), along with 35,822 for the Eco-Scheme.

Farmers are being reminded that the closing date for BISS applications is Friday, May 15, 2026.

BISS

This week, the department will kick off the first in a series of in-person clinics to help farmers in making their BISS and other area-based scheme applications online.

The clinics will take place from 10:00a.m-4:30p.m and staff from the department will provide one-to-one support to farmers.

DAFM said these clinics are "particularly useful for farmers" who do not have a Farm Advisory System-approved adviser to assist them with their application.

The first event will take place in Ennis Co. Clare on Wednesday (April 1), with another clinic in Macroom, Co. Cork on the following day.

Farmers planning to attend the clinics must bring details of their MyAgfood.ie login, where available, and details of herd number, and PPSN to verify their identity.
