Bord Bia: 'Constructive dialogue will continue'

Bord Bia has said that "constructive dialogue" will continue as the controversy surrounding Bord Bia chair Larry Murrin rumbles on.

The comments follow a scheduled meeting of the board of Bord Bia yesterday (Wednesday, February 18).

Along with Larry Murrin, there are 14 other members on the board, including the Irish Farmers' Association (IFA) and the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers' Association (ICMSA).

In a statement to Agriland, a spokesperson for Bord Bia said: "The board of Bord Bia met today. Resolution is still being sought, and constructive dialogue will continue".

Farm organisations and some politicians have demanded that Larry Murrin resign or be removed after it was confirmed Dawn Farm Foods, of which Murrin is CEO, sourced 1% of its beef supply in 2025 from Brazil.

Murrin has strongly rejected claims that his role as chair of the Irish Food Board is "incompatible" with leading a multi-national company which has imported beef from Brazil.

During the previous board meeting, held on January 22, IFA president Francie Gorman sought the resignation of Murrin as the chair of Bord Bia.

The IFA is continuing a rolling protest at Bord Bia headquarters in Dublin, which began on January 26.

The protest is being run using a roster system covering all counties.

Five members of the farm organisation have also been inside the building in the reception area for over two weeks now.

IFA president Francie Gorman has said the protest will continue until Larry Murrin resigns or is removed from his position.

Meeting

Meanwhile, IFA is holding a public meeting tonight in Co. Mayo on the ongoing controversy.

IFA Connacht regional chair Brendan Golden said farmers in the region are "very annoyed about the double standards at play".

He said public representatives from the region have been invited so they can hear the frustrations of farmers.

The meeting will take place in the McWilliam Park Hotel at 8:00p.m. tonight.
