The 59ha farm is running over 50 high-performing suckler cows alongside 230 mid-season lambing ewes.

The farm is delivering almost €4,500/ha in beef output while maintaining tight control on costs to achieve a net margin before premia of €1,457/ha.

The farm has been described as "one of the most profitable suckler systems in the country."

Everyone taking part in the farm walk will see the suckler herd and its progeny, which is built around Simmental and Limousin-cross genetics, with breeding focused firmly on fertility, milk, and carcass quality.

A representative from ABP will also give a demonstration on drafting cattle for slaughter and what to look out for in selecting factory fit cattle.

There will also be a demonstration on the different cuts of beef.

Farm walks

The farm walk marks the first in a series of FutureBeef Suckler Farm Walks taking place this summer which are being sponsored by ABP.

Speaking to Agriland ahead of the farm walk, Eleanor Cummins from ABP Slaney, encouraged farmers to come along on the evening.

She said: "We at ABP are delighted to be involved with John Pringle’s Future Beef farm walk.

"As a valued supplier, we felt due diligence to help promote his sustainable farming practices, environmental stewardship and exceptional standards of beef production.

"Events like these are invaluable for knowledge transfer and encouraging innovation in the farming community.

"We will have a live demonstration by procurement staff detailing the key handling points for selecting fit cattle and look at the various cuts of beef."

"Our farm liaison officers will be on hand on the evening to discuss our Advantage Programme and to answer questions and we are looking forward to seeing you there."

The farm walk aims to give farmers a detailed look at how a high-output, profitable suckler-to-beef system can be achieved while still meeting key performance targets around fertility, carcass quality, grassland management, and biodiversity.

The evening aims to be a practical event with real figures, proven performance and honest discussions around what it takes to run a profitable suckler system in today’s environment.

Farmers interested in improving output, fertility, carcass performance, and profitability are encouraged to attend the event.
