ALDI the latest retailer to reduce milk and butter prices

ALDI Ireland is the latest processor to reduce milk and butter prices for consumers, following on from similar announcements from other retailers.

The retailer has confirmed that it will be reducing the retail prices across its private label butter and milk range "with immediate effect".

The retailer's Clonbawn milk range will be reduced by various amounts across several carton seizes, from 0.5L up to 3L.

These reductions apply to whole milk, low fat, skimmed, protein milk and lactose free products.

The milk products will be reduced by between 3c and 14c, with new prices ranging from 69c to €3.25, depending on carton size.

For butter, the Kilkeely range will be decreased by between 10c and 40c, depending on pack size (454g or 227g).

The new retail prices for the butter range will between €2.99 or €1.99 depending on pack size.

Commenting on the price reductions, ALDI managing director for Ireland Niall O'Connor said: "As families look ahead to the Easter season, we remain committed to delivering unbeatable value across our entire range.

"Over recent months, we've continued to cut the prices of hundreds of everyday products, ensuring our customers never have to choose between affordability, taste, and quality," O'Connor added.

He said that ALDI "[continues] to absorb costs where possible, protect consumers, and support our suppliers".

Other retailers

Musgrave announced earlier today (Thursday, March 26) that prices on SuperValu and Centra own-brand Irish butter and milk products will be reduced across stores nationwide from tomorrow (Friday, March 27).

Following Tesco and Lidl Ireland, this is the third retail chain today (March 26) to announce price reductions on milk and butter.

Earlier today (March 26) Lidl Ireland announced it will be reducing prices across its own-brand milk and butter range.

The price of a standard 2-litre carton of milk will drop to €2.25, while a 454g (1lb) block of Irish creamery butter will be reduced from €3.39 to €2.99.

Meanwhile, Tesco confirmed a new round of price reductions on its own-brand butter and milk.

Tesco said the price of a 2-litre carton of fresh milk will be cut by 10 cent to €2.35, while a 454g block of Tesco Irish Creamery Butter will go down by 40c to €3.39.

Henry Dunne, Irish Farmers' Association (IFA) liquid milk chair, told Agriland: "It is really disappointing to see the cuts, given expenses that liquid farmers are incurring."
